the week – sounded as though it might have been based on reality. This was a fast moving stage with triple taps on the rifle targets as well as a two round rifle reload. There were five pistol targets that the shooter was able to determine their own shooting order on. The Col. came out on top on this stage, sending 10 clouds of smoke from his pistols, 12 flaming rounds from his rifle and 6 booming rounds from his shotgun downrange in just 32.28 seconds. Stage Three, “Coyotes & Daisies”, written by Rogue River Renegade - On this stage the shooters concentrated less on moving about and more on accurately hitting. In a fashion that RRR is becoming known for he provide smaller pistol targets for the shooter to focus on by specifying head and tail shots on a coyote target. At the buzzer the shooter cut down two daisy targets (fallers) with their shotgun, drew their first pistol and put a shot in the coyote head and one in the tail followed by 3 shots dumped quickly into the body. After holstering the first pistol the shooter reached for his/her rifle and triple tapped the 3 small coyote targets at the back of the bay. After that the shooter pulled their second pistol from its holster and repeated the assault on the coyote, finishing the stage with two more daisies cut down with their shotgun. August’s JSR monthly match brought out 28 shooters including three new faces; Wrong Way, Silver Hawk and Rusty Bolt. This was the first time Cowboy Action Shooting for Silver Hawk and Rusty Bolt and I had the pleasure of being on the same posse with both of them.
Stage One (the infamous “Shotgun Stage”) was written, er, I should say designed by MT Dawson as the writing consisted of “its too hot for a story, let’s shoot”. Dawson had us running a course outlined by chalk arrows and dumping a handful of shells at every stop. Col. Cornelius Gilliam took first place on this stage, firing twelve shots from his double-barreled coach gun and two cylinders full from his Vaquero’s in just 45.23 seconds.
Stage Two, written by The Col, was titled “Lithia Springs Summer Jubilation”. The scenario had the shooter at the range to blow off some steam after a bit too much work during |
