"O.C. Pratt" In 1996 Bill Longiotti (AKA "Just Bill") was turned on to Cowboy Action Shooting. Determined to get the sport to the Rogue Valley he posted fliers around the area requesting anyone interested in getting a group going to contact him. About six months later and after he got twenty interested people on his list they organized a meeting on May 3rd, 1997 to get a group together. Click here to see the flier. The first official practice shoot and business meeting brought together Just Bill, O.C Pratt, Driller, Col. Cornelius Gilliam, Yreka Jim, and Marshal Chapped Hyde August 2nd, 1997 at the Ashland Gun Club. This meeting is where Jefferson State Regulators was agreed upon and voted in as the club's official name. Click here to see the first newsletter/business meeting minutes. The organization of the first annual shoot was also discussed. The original date for the annual shoot was August 23rd, but it was decided that more time was needed to prepare, so the shoot and gun show was postponed and rescheduled for September 20th, 1997. Click here to see the annual shoot flier. Twenty-three shooters gathered for the first annual shoot & gun show at the Ashland Gun Club for a one-day match ending with the 3rd annual Rogue River Roundup. The overall match winner for the shoot was Brownie Nash. Since that first annual event, JSR has hosted an annual shoot in August every year. Now more than 90 shooters are in attendance for two days of shooting, a great BBQ dinner with prizes galore, side matches, and a trophy ceremony where everyone walks away a winner. JSR membership started with 16 Charter members and has now grown to exceed sixty. There is an monthly shoot at the Ashland Gun Club every 3rd Saturday of the month with 25 to 40 shooters and a business meeting at Angelo's Pizza the 2nd Monday of every month with about 20 members present. The Jefferson State Regulators have grown by leaps and bounds, but one thing remains the same-the passion for Cowboy Action Shooting and the "Cowboy Way". |
